What is this Issue Concerning?
This is about civilian elecrical power infrastructure being built fragile (without much resilience), how easily disruption can happen, the harm that disruption can cause, and how long it can take to fix
Why is that a threat?
We depend on electricity heavily in our daily lives, and the support services we depend on also heavily depend on electricity (eg. grocery stores, gas stations, banks, municipal water stations), and we typically don't produce it ourselves. If it's cut off, we can be quickly cut off from many of our life supports.
If main transformers are damaged, they can take months or years to replace.
The threat of diruption even from natural events is great, nevermind from war, especially one which may involve intercontinental missiles and/or sabotage by local terror cells.
